Abstract
On June 12, 2024, Shu Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group, Full-time Vice Chairman, and Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, visited Lin County in Shanxi Province to conduct a special research study on the Chinese Forestry Society’s assistance efforts in developing the jujube industry in Lin County.
Shu Wei listened to a work report from the head of the Chinese Society of Forestry on the assistance provided to the jujube industry in Lin County. He conducted an on-site investigation into the construction of the science and technology innovation service station at Shanxi Qikou Hong Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. and the jujube processing operations. He gained a detailed understanding of the Chinese Society of Forestry’s assistance model and its effectiveness for the jujube industry in Lin County, including jujube base development, jujube enterprise management, the development of the sour jujube industry, and the next steps in the assistance plan.
Secretary Shu listened to a report from the head of the Chinese Society of Forestry on the assistance efforts.
To further implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on rural revitalization, support the transformation and upgrading of the jujube industry in Lin County—a former revolutionary base area—and help local farmers increase their incomes and become prosperous, with strong support from the China Association for Science and Technology, since 2018, the Chinese Society of Forestry has leveraged its advantages in science and technology, talent, and organizational capacity to introduce more than ten superior varieties of jujube trees. It has established an 800-mu demonstration base for high-grafting and variety improvement of jujube trees, a 300-mu demonstration base for high-grafting and variety improvement of sour jujubes, and an 800-mu demonstration base for integrated forestry-agricultural and livestock farming under forest canopies in Lin County. The Society has also set up an Academician Workstation for Jujube, providing specialized guidance on improving the quality and efficiency of the jujube industry as well as upgrading its processing techniques. Moreover, it has organized multiple technical training sessions, cumulatively training over 420 forest farmers and preparing and distributing training materials. The Society has held numerous academic seminars on innovative development of the jujube industry, creating a platform for exchange and collaboration within the sector. Additionally, it has mobilized livestreaming professionals to promote and market Lin County’s specialty agricultural products. The Society’s assistance efforts in Lin County have served as a model, inspiring neighboring communities to escape poverty and achieve prosperity. From 2019 to 2022, the Chinese Society of Forestry was consecutively recognized by the China Association for Science and Technology as an outstanding organization for science and technology-driven targeted poverty alleviation (rural revitalization). In 2021, it was awarded the title of “National Outstanding Poverty-Alleviation Society” by the China Association for Science and Technology, and in 2018, it was honored by the Lin County Party Committee and County Government as a “Pioneer in Science and Technology-Driven Poverty Alleviation.”
